- «Archaeological Museum»
The Archaeological Museum of Piraeus was founded in 1966 and inaugurated in 1981. The building, itself, is situated on the north side of the archaeological site that surrounds the Zea Theatre, while the area around the theatre is used as the storage countryside of ancient inscriptions and other objects.
It has a total surface of approximately 1,400 sq. m., while in the basement are located the laboratories and the repository of the museum.
The Museum’s activities include educational programs, lectures and several other cultural events.
The Archaeological Museum offers a representative picture of the city’s history, which, during antiquity was a commercial centre of the Eastern Mediterranean of unique significance.
The collection consists mainly of excavation finds, while it has also, been enriched by private dominations, (such as the Geroulanos and Meletopoulos collections).
Museum by section:
Ancient Piraeus as commercial centre (1st floor entrance)
Exhibits concerning the economic life of the ancient agora, (market place and civic centre), such as a metrological relief, (found in Salamis), and a market control list.
Additionally, the military character of the port is shown through objects related to ancient warships.
Pottery and private life (1st floor- room 2)
This section is dedicated to the development of pottery from the Mycenaean up to the Hellenistic period.
The bronze statues of Piraeus (1st floor- rooms 3-4)
In this section are presented the most significant exhibits of the museum. The bronze statues were discovered near the harbor of Piraeus in 1959, namely:
- the archaic kouros of Apollo
- two statues of Artemis
- the statue of Athena
- a mask of the ancient theatre, dating in the 4th c. BC.
Religious life (1st floor – room 5)
This section houses a representation of a typical sanctuary of the Classic period.
Morphological development of the sepulchral monument (1st floor- room 6, ground floor- rooms 7-8)
This section offers a detailed picture of the perception of death with several sepulchral reliefs.
The plastic art of the Hellenistic and Roman periods (ground floor- rooms 9-10)
The exhibits of this section, (few in number), are of exceptional quality and delicacy. During this period, Piraeus was in decline under the influence of the Macedonian rule.

- «Naval Museum»
The Naval Museum, *the biggest in Greece), was founded in 1949 and since the year of 1971 has been housed in the building of Marina Zea. The museum, (a total area of approximately 1,850 sq. m.), is rich in artifacts relative to the maritime tradition and history of the nation from antiquity until today. Those artifacts include models of ships, objects, paintings, photographs etc.
There is, also, a great collection of Greek and international maps, (16th-19th century), as well as, a naval library with more than 10,000 volumes and magazines, organized by the Dewey system.
The Naval Museum is a member of the International Committee of Naval Museums, (ICNM).

- «Pano’s Aravantinos Museum»
The museum of painting and scenography, is donated by the great artist Panos Aravantinos to the municipality of Piraeus. It is housed in the building of the Municipal Theatre and it consists of three showrooms, including more than 600 works, such as paintings, costume designs, posters, miniatures of scenography etc.

- «Averof Museum»
The homonymous battleship, (permanently anchored at the region “Delta” Falirou), operates as a museum with unique memorabilia and other material from the action of «Averof», especially during the Balkan wars.
- «Veakio Theatre»
The summer Public Theatre of Veakio is situated in one of the most beautiful locations of Piraeus, the hill of Castella, (in altitude of 86,59 m.).
It was constructed in the year of 1969, while its current name was given in the year of 1976 in honor of the great Greek actor, Emilios Veaki who was born in Piraeus.
During the summer period, the theatre turns into a cultural centre with appearances of Greek and foreign folk groups, as well as concerts of famous artists.

- «Municipal Picture Gallery»
The Municipal Gallery was launched in the year of 1957 as part of the Public Library and in 1985 as an independent section. Temporarily, it is housed at the Municipal Theatre with entrance from 4, Agios Constantine Street.
The Gallery includes more than 800 works of famous modern Greek painters, such as M.Akselou, K. Volanaki, E. Douka, N. Lytras, K. Romanides and many others.
The Municipal Gallery, also, owns a collection of 80 sculptures of George Kastrionti, (1899-1969) and the collection of 156 works of the folk artist Stamatis Lazarou, (1915-1988). Of great importance is, of course, the donation of the actor Manos Katrakis, (1909-1984), including several theatrical costumes, personal belongings and valuable photographic material.

- «Municipal Theatre»
The Municipal Theatre is situated in one of the most central streets of the town, (Korai Square), being considered as one of the best theatres in the Balkans. Its imposing appearance is remarkable with a portico at the entrance and columns of the Corinthian order. The hall, of superb acoustic, is horse-shoe shaped with approximately 1,300 sits.
It was founded in 1984, completed in 1995 and for a century continues to be the focus of the local artistic life.
- «Municipal Library»
The Municipal Library was established in 1927 and is one of the richest libraries with more than 20,000 titles. The collection comes from different donations, such as the donation of Mavrokordatou, Lucas Rlli, Pan. Pipineli ets.
The library has been divided into three sections, namely:
a) The Old Library, with rich collections of manuscripts, boos, (16th-19th century), magazines and a collection of 600 maps of various travelers.
b) The Central Library, with 3,500 titles, the daily press of Piraeus and Athens, the lending section with 7,000 volumes and children’s section.
c) The press section that includes records of the Press from 1849 to date.
