Marathona (0)Marathon is situated on the northeast coast of Attica, 42 km from Athens, on a total land surface of 405,000 acres. The forest extends almost to the water's edge, and is only separated from it, by 12 kms of golden sandy beach, stretching around the historic Marathon Bay.Marathon has a population of 14,000 permanent residents, but during the summer months the population increases to 30,000 due to the many holidaymakers that visit the area.Finding your way to Marathon by public transport is straightforward. An Attica KTEL bus that serves the area can be found at the terminus in Pedion tou Areos in downtown Athens.
